چکیده

Time Difference Of Arrival (TDOA) estimates are used for passive acoustic single sound source localization with microphone arrays. The technique of choice in most systems for TDOA estimation is the Generalized Cross-Correlation (GCC) method [1]. For a multi-sound source scenario, cross-correlation terms of the active sound source signals as well as noise and reverberation effects complicate the TDOA estimation and make a robust sound source localization difficult. In this publication a method increasing the absolute correct TDOA estimate percentage by up to 5.06% compared to the standard method is presented. Furthermore, we demonstrate that two properties of the GCC function the value of the maximum peak and the ratio between the and the peak can be used as reliability indicators for the TDOA estimates. Separating these confidence criteria into intervals with increasing values, a highly confident correct TDOA estimate percentage of about 98% in the interval with highest values could be achieved for both criteria. This study is carried out with real data recorded for a stationary two sound source scenario in a noisy and reverberant office room environment.

Multiple Sound Source Counting and Localization Based on Spatial Principal Eigenvector

Multiple sound source localization remains a challenging issue due to the interaction between sources. Although traditional approaches can locate multiple sources effectively, most of them require the number of sound sources as a priori knowledge. However, the number of sound sources is generally unknown in practical applications. To overcome this problem, a spatial principal eigenvector based ...

Considering the Second Peak in the Gcc Function for Multi-source Tdoa Estimation with a Microphone Array

Time Difference Of Arrival (TDOA) estimates can be used for passive acoustic multiple sound source localization with microphone arrays. The TDOA estimation is based on the cross-correlation function of two signals of a microphone pair. Existing systems assume only one dominant sound source per analysis frame rejecting the localization information of other active sources present in the acoustic ...

Confidence Scoring of Time Difference of Arrival Estimation for Speaker Localization with Microphone Arrays

Microphone arrays can be employed for passive acoustic source localization using time difference of arrival (TDOA) estimates in microphone pairs. The most common method for this TDOA estimation is the generalized crosscorrelation (GCC) method which is also used in this work. In an office room environmental noise influences and reverberation effects complicate the TDOA estimation and aggravate a...

A graph theoretical framework for consistent time differences of arrival

The estimation of time difference of arrival (TDOA) plays an important role in acoustic source localization, blind source separation, acoustic sound control, and improved speech communication. However, when multiple sources are active in a reverberant environment, the TDOA estimates are known to suffer from the multipath and multiple source ambiguity, and hence are less reliable. In a previous ...
